Bullfight

One of the things you think of when thinking of Spain (beside sangria and tapas) is bullfighting. We talked about going but weren't really sure if it was something we really wanted to do or not. Once we found out there was a bullfight while we were there we figured why not. So we started the day with a tour of the ring and then followed that with a bullfight later that afternoon.

We learned that they first start out with pink capes. A bullfight actually has 3 different parts to it. In one bullfight there are actually 6 bulls killed! Each matador kills two bulls. We made it through two and that was enough for us!
We did get to see one bull knock a matador over and start going at him before the picadors stepped in and distracted him. i almost wanted to cheer for him (the bull).
We were welcomed to the bull ring by protesters standing outside with signs. I felt a little guilty that we were participating in such an animalistic tradition but it is part of the culture. We were all in agreement that it is pretty terrible what they put the bulls through  and we were surprised it was still as popular as it is. But we were in Spain and not in America. PETA would have a stroke if something like this happened in America! Like Aunt Margie told us: we had to go to experience it but its not anything I really would have to do again.
